Rug Cleaning Guide
1. Standard Rug Cleaning:
- Shake or vacuum off dust and debris.
- Choose an appropriate carpet shampoo. Always patch test before applying.
- Clean preferably outdoors. If not, use a bathtub to prevent mess.
- Let it dry in a well-ventilated area.
- Use fabric spray for added fragrance (if material permits).
2. Wool & Cotton Rugs:
- Vacuum or shake the rug.
- Use cold water with a mild, non-bio detergent. Test on a small patch.
- Dampen a white microfiber cloth and dab, especially on soiled areas.
- Rinse with plain water, and blot dry.
3. Shag/Fluffy/Deep Pile Rugs:
- Use dry shampoo. Sprinkle and work it into the fibers.
- Allow it to sit, then vacuum or shake out.
4. Jute Rugs:
- As they're water-sensitive, use the dry shampoo method like shag rugs.
5. Sheepskin Rugs:
- Wash in cool water with sheepskin detergent.
- Rinse, squeeze out excess water, and reshape.
- Air dry away from direct sunlight. Brush halfway through and post drying.
6. Viscose Rugs:
- Brush gently with soft bristles.
- Blot spills immediately.
7. Outdoor Rugs:
- Beat out debris, then wash with cold water. Dry outdoors.
Stain Removal Tips:
- Red Wine: Blot immediately. Use a baking soda-water mixture or vinegar solution.
- Tea/Coffee: Blot and use a vinegar-water solution.
- Nail Polish: Use non-acetone remover, window cleaner, or hairspray.
- Pet Stains: Use a vinegar, baking soda, and water mix.
- Mud/Dirt: Let mud dry, brush off, and treat with a salt-vinegar solution.
- Paint: Opt for the Hot Water Extraction Method by professionals.
Odor Removal:
- Baking Soda Method: Sprinkle generously, leave overnight, then vacuum.
- Steam Cleaning: If suitable, steam clean the rug, adding vinegar if needed.
- Pet Odors: Apply baking soda on a wet rug, leave overnight, then apply vinegar. Blot dry.
